Welcome to Tudor Tours

Tudor Tours offers holidays in historic England, usually in small groups, avoiding the crowds of the cities.  The Tudor monarchs, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I will be brought to life by an expert historian.  Guests stay in an old coaching inn and are transported in comfort to carefully chosen historical sites in the Heart of England, the beautiful region to the north of London.

Itineraries are suggested or we can customise tours to suit our guests. We provide a personalised service based on care for our guests, attention to their wishes and a desire to enable guests to have a holiday to cherish.  Our tours are thoroughly and carefully prepared to ensure that our guests will experience the beauty and history of England, away from the usual tourist track.

We are currently offering spring and summer holidays – April to October – which focus on the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. In 2005, the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, we offer the opportunity to explore the background of the plotters, the reasons for the plot and its consequences. We customise tours for groups of guests who wish to set their own itinerary. These can include some of the more well-known attractions such as Hampton Court Palace, Hatfield House, Oxford, Shakespeare’s Stratford on Avon and Cotswold villages, but guests also enjoy superb days out to some of England’s best-kept secrets – Tudor houses that have been family homes for 500 years and Tudor buildings that have survived over the centuries yet seem so peaceful in today’s troubled world.

Tudor Tours also offers an autumn/winter tour – November to March – visiting those places that remain open all year, as well as some private houses where available. We can also offer short breaks with a Tudor theme. Most of our guests book a 6-night holiday (arrive Sunday, 5 days of tours, leave Saturday), but this can be extended to 7 nights or 2 weeks. Booking as a group of 2 will ensure completely personal service, enabling us to arrange all aspects of your holiday to suit your specific needs. You may wish to bring friends or family to make a larger group or we may be able to add other guests to the group to reduce the cost. See our Tours page for suggested itineraries.

Our guests from the UK usually make their own way to the hotel. For overseas guests and others who do not wish to drive (on the wrong side of the road!) we personally provide all transport. We meet guests at any London airport – Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton or Stansted – as well as railway stations in Oxford and Milton Keynes, and local coach stops, and return them at the end of their stay. We recommend the Villiers Hotel in the historic country town of Buckingham or for a more economical hotel, the Buckingham Beales Hotel. See our Accommodation and Dining page for details.

The sites we have chosen are a strong focus for the holiday. However, we fully appreciate that time is required for our guests to discuss and reflect upon what they have seen. Lunches are arranged in country inns of character or on-site restaurants. In addition, we offer opportunities to break with the itinerary for general sightseeing, shopping or to enjoy a beautiful garden (something of a passion with your hosts). We are very aware that flexibility is important for a full and enjoyable holiday.
